How I make money on this site and why you can trust the recommendations.

The short version
Some links on this site earn me a commission when you buy through them. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. The price you pay never changes. I clearly distinguish gear I have used from recommendations researched through primary sources. My opinions and recommendation rankings are not influenced by commission rates or sponsor deals.
This site is run by Oleg Kovalov through Video Hook LLC, a single-member LLC based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States.
Amazon Associates
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. OlegKovalov.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
When you click an Amazon link on this site and buy a qualifying item within Amazon's attribution window, I earn a small percentage of the sale. During that window this can include other qualifying items you add to your cart, not only the specific product you clicked. The percentage varies by product category and is set by Amazon. When you click an Amazon link and visit Amazon, Amazon may set its own cookie to attribute the sale to me. That cookie is set and controlled by Amazon, not by this site. B&H Photo
I also participate in the B&H Photo affiliate program, which runs through an affiliate network. Camera bodies, lenses, audio gear, lighting, and accessories linked through B&H Photo may earn me a commission when you buy through them. As with Amazon, the price you pay is the same as if you went to B&H Photo directly.
Other affiliate programs
From time to time I link to software, plugins, courses, music licensing services, hosting providers, or other tools that have their own affiliate programs. When this happens, the link is still an affiliate link and may earn me a commission. I always say so on the page where the link appears.
Where you will see these disclosures
This page applies to every page on the site that contains affiliate or sponsored links. It is not the only place I disclose. So you never have to go looking, I also disclose at the point where the recommendation is made:
- On any blog post or page that contains affiliate links, you will see a clear disclosure near the top of the content, before the links, not buried in a footer.
- In any video where I recommend gear, I say out loud that the links are affiliate links, and I repeat it in the description near the links.
- The Amazon statement, As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, appears wherever Amazon links are used.
What you will not find affiliate links inside
To keep things clean and to follow each program's rules, I do not put Amazon affiliate links inside the digital products you buy from me, such as LUT packs and PDF guides, and I do not put Amazon affiliate links inside my email newsletter. If I point you to a product from inside a download or an email, I link to a page on this site, and that page carries the disclosure.
Sponsored content and free review units
Occasionally a brand sends me a product to test, lends me gear for a project, or pays for an integration in a video or blog post. When this happens:
- I disclose the sponsorship or free unit in the content itself, not just on this page.
- I write what I actually think. If a sponsored product has flaws, I say so.
- I do not accept sponsorships for products I would not use myself.
- If I cannot say something honest about a sponsored product, I do not publish the content.
A note on how my articles are written
Some articles on this site are edited from my own video transcripts with the help of AI tools. Hands-on claims reflect gear I have actually used. Research-based recommendations are labeled and sourced. I do not publish fabricated experiences or invented reviews.
How this affects what I recommend
The way affiliate revenue and sponsorships work, it would be easy to chase the highest commissions or the loudest brand deals. I try not to do that. The point of this site is to be useful enough that you come back, and that only works if my recommendations are honest. If a cheaper option is better, I point at it. If a premium product is overhyped, I say so.
Your cost is the same
Clicking an affiliate link on this site never costs you more than buying directly. The retailers pay the commission out of their own margins. You pay the same price either way. The affiliate model is what funds the time it takes to test gear and write detailed reviews instead of churning out generic listicles.
